Understanding & Treating Depression
Depression can feel like a heavy fog that settles over every part of life. It’s sometimes described as a black dog that follows you everywhere - a constant, invisible weight that makes even simple tasks feel difficult.
Depression is a common but serious mental health condition that affects how you think, feel, and function day to day. It can impact your mood, energy, motivation, concentration, sleep, appetite, and self-esteem.
For some, it shows up as persistent sadness or emotional numbness; for others, it may present as irritability, hopelessness, or physical fatigue. Activities that once brought joy may now feel empty. Even getting out of bed can feel overwhelming.
If you’re experiencing symptoms of depression, know that you’re not alone - and that effective support is available.
As a counsellor, I work with people experiencing depression in many forms -from ongoing low mood and burnout, to deep emotional pain or disconnection.
Together, we’ll work at your own pace to explore the factors contributing to your experience. This may include life events, chronic stress, unresolved trauma, relationship challenges, or ingrained patterns of thinking and behaviour.
Counselling can help you to:
-
Understand the root causes and patterns of your depression
-
Learn tools to manage overwhelming thoughts and emotions
-
Reconnect with a sense of meaning and motivation
-
Develop coping strategies that support your wellbeing
-
Move toward healing and re-engagement with life in a meaningful way
My approach is evidence-informed and person-centred, with each session tailored to your unique needs, goals, and preferences for how you like to explore challenges.
Seeking support is a courageous and meaningful step. Recovery is possible - and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
If you're ready, I’m here to walk alongside you.
