Meet Jemima

Sutherland Shire's local counsellor

Hi, I’m Jemima.

I’m a registered counsellor, a southern Sydney local, and a mum of three. I also love a good coffee, chocolate, and the occasional trail run. Mostly though, I’m just another human navigating the messy, beautiful parts of life.

The Work I'm Drawn To:

Many of the women I see are used to managing - holding responsibility, anticipating needs, and keeping things moving, even when it feels heavy inside. The Counselling Cove was created with those women in mind - for times when holding it all starts to take a toll. It's a slower space within busy lives, where you can pause, gather yourself, and sit with what’s there. I'm deeply committed to the idea that support shouldn’t be something you have to wait until breaking point to receive.

The challenges that tend to show up include anxietyburnoutgrief and loss, parenting pressures, perfectionism, self-esteem concerns, relationship strain, stress, and periods of change. Often it's not one clear issue, but the accumulation of many things at once. The work isn’t just about getting through a hard season, but about moving through it without losing your sense of self along the way - especially when life continues to ask a lot of you.

If you are used to holding it together, letting someone see you when things feel more exposed can be a significant step. That's why finding the right counsellor really matters - and why it often becomes clear fairly quickly whether it feels like a good fit. I offer a free initial chat as a starting point: a relaxed phone call to connect, talk through what’s been happening for you, and see whether working together feels right.

My Experience:

I’m a fully qualified counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association, and hold a Master of Counselling (MCouns, AIPC).

Over the years, I’ve supported people through community counselling, bereavement, and crisis settings - including time with StandBy Support After Suicide, Lifeline, and St Vincent’s Hospital. What has stayed with me from this work is a deep respect for how people keep going through extraordinarily difficult seasons - and how much steadier things can feel when they're genuinely supported.

How I Work:

My approach is collaborative and flexible. As an integrative counsellor, I’m trained in a range evidence-based approaches and draw on what's most appropriate for you. This can include ACT, CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness and self-compassion. Some sessions are practical and grounding. Others are slower and more reflective. At times, the work is simply about having space to speak honestly, without needing to filter yourself or hold yourself together. If you want to learn more about the different therapy styles, see my Therapeutic Approach page.

At the heart of it, my role is simple: to offer a steady, thoughtful space where you can speak openly and feel understood.

If you’re carrying something heavy, or simply feeling quietly stuck, you’re very welcome here.
