Anxiety Counselling for Women
Sutherland Shire
Anxiety doesn’t always look like panic or fear.
Often, it looks like functioning - while feeling constantly on edge inside.
Feeling anxious from time to time is a normal part of being human. It’s our nervous system’s way of responding to perceived threat or pressure.
But when anxiety becomes a near-constant background presence - even when life looks “fine” on the outside - it can quietly take a toll on your wellbeing, relationships, and sense of ease.
Many women I work with are capable, responsible, and outwardly coping - yet internally feel tense, overwhelmed, or unable to truly switch off.
Anxiety can manifest in many different ways, including:
-
Persistent worry or overthinking
-
Racing thoughts or mental load that never settles
-
Physical symptoms such as a racing heart, tight chest, or shallow breathing
-
Difficulty concentrating or being present
-
Avoidance (often subtle) of situations that feel emotionally taxing
-
Trouble falling or staying asleep, or waking with a sense of dread
How can Anxiety Counselling help?
The good news is that anxiety is very responsive to therapeutic support.
Counselling provides a steady, supportive space to explore what may be driving your anxiety - particularly when it’s been building quietly over time. Together, we work at your pace to help you relate differently to anxious thoughts, ease pressure on your nervous system, and develop strategies that feel sustainable rather than overwhelming.
For many women seeking counselling, therapy is less about “getting rid” of anxiety - and more about learning how to live with greater calm, flexibility, and self-trust.

What does Anxiety Therapy look like?
In our work together, we focus on understanding your experience of anxiety - not just managing symptoms, but exploring the patterns, expectations, and responsibilities that may be contributing to it.
-
Understand the underlying roots of your anxiety
-
Learn practical tools to calm your mind and body
-
Reduce self-criticism and perfectionistic pressure
-
Gentle move away from avoidance and constant vigilance
-
Build a sense of steadiness and confidence from within
-
Create a life that feels more balanced, spacious, and aligned
